I began this project by making templates out of thick poster board, marked with my Sharpie! As I finished each template, I would hang it on the bedroom wall. The next step was to create a mold strong enough to hold wet cement through the curing process (I purchased my cement at Home Depot). I decided to use aluminum foil, quadruple folded, then form the foil up around the template and use 3M masking tape to seal the seams. When this was done, I removed the template and taped all the seams from under the template. Then, I put the template back in for stability and to retain the shape until the cement was poured.

When all the molds were completed, I moved them to the garage for the cement pouring process. I hired a couple I know, James and Michelle Kennedy, to pour the cement for me, as I'm not very good at mixing cement...yet!

Once a track was solid, I would remove the foil mold, clean the surfaces and then paint the inside and outside of the tracks with white exterior paint from Sears. Some of the tracks did crack when they were moved, so I repaired any broken tracks with JB Weld from Lowe's.

Then I painted the track surfaces to give them a smoother appearance. I used grey primer for Dover and my favorite track, Bristol, for a smooth concrete look. All the rest have varying shades of dark grey to appear as smooth asphalt.
